Nars Orgasm/Laguna Blush/Brozer Duo

I saw this when I was watching fafinettex3's April Faves. I thought it looked so pretty and was looking for a really great bronzer.

So, I went to Sephora and had one of the girls test it out on me. I totally fell in love! The sales girl was a little heavy handed with the brush so it looked a little cakey in natural lighting, but when I brought it home to try for myself, I found it a lot less cakey. Fantastic!

Here's what it looks like:

Now, Aubrey from fafinettex3 is fairly darker than I am. So before I made this purchase, I really had to try it out. The blush gives you a perfect hint of pink and the bronzer totally slims the face down! I was really worried because it looked SO pink and SO brown, but was happy to find that they blend very well into the skin.

I tried this out on my friend who has even fairer skin than I, and she loved it so much that she went out to buy it the very week!

I think you'll find that it's very impressive and a great investment :).

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine

When I was in Beverly Hills, I got a little caught up in all the luxury of Rodeo Drive. So when I wandered into Chanel and saw the cosmetics counter, swatching became a must!

This is Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine in Monte Carlo:

I'll be honest, the packaging (how cute is that Chanel monogram!) and the name of the lipstick was a lot of the appeal for me. I really wanted to get my normal peach/pink/coral color, but this berry shade was calling my name!

Here's a swatch:

As you can see, it's relatively sheer. At first I felt like that was a bit of a failure on their part since the lipstick was so expensive, but I bought it anyway because I really hate red lipsticks that are mega-pigmented.

Over all, this lipstick is SUPREME. You really get what you pay for because the formula is just amazing. It gives your lips an amazing shine without any lipgloss and is VERY moisturizing. The color? VERY long lasting. I dabbed a little on 5 hours ago, and after coffee, gum, and eating lunch, there is still a red tint on my lips with no reapplication. THAT to me is AMAZING.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Cream Shadows

Update: It's been THREE MONTHS! I know... I'm god awful :(. The plus side to this is that I have accumulated a good amount of goodies to share with you. Now that finals, graduation, and vacationing is all over, I am going to make a better effort to blog haha.

A while back, I saw frmheadtotoe talk about these cream shadows in her video, and thought "how awesome!" So when I happened to be near a CCO, I grabbed some. Let me tell you: SO TRUE. They are every bit as impressive as she said they would be.

At $12.25 a pop, I got three:

Vintage Violet - my favorite because I find it to be most wearable.

Silver Leaf

Sea Mist - so pretty!!!

Here are some swatches (just a swipe):

Very true to color huh?

I absolutely adore them! They are so creamy and so vibrant! I only just swiped them a bit and they came out mega pigmented. I haven't tried yet, but I'm pretty sure you can double this up as dramatic eyeliner.

My only regret is the Silver Leaf. I realized later that I didn't really have a need for it, and that I should've gotten a golden color instead since it better compliments my skin tone. Oh well!

Tip: Apply cream shadows with your fingers. It has a thicker consistency, so it can easily clump your brushes. AND by using your fingers, you will warm up (melt) the product resulting in easier application.

MAC Cutie Palette

I was merely browsing the MAC counter at Nordstrom when the sales woman comes up to me and insists I peek at the upcoming collection. She said the word "pastels" and of course, I was sold.

I took a gander and pre-ordered the lipstick in Playing Koi.

It's a little more bubble-gum-pop than I had expected, but I still love it. AND the texture is, as always, mega moisturizing.

I don't have an awesome picture, but you can check it out here.

This is the MAC Cutie Palette.

It has a cool transparent cover! I think this is my first pre-set palette from MAC.

Here are the colors (clockwise starting from the white shade): Moshi Moshi!, Goody Goody Gum Drop, Boycrazy, and Azuki Bean. Cute, no?

The colors actually lack a lot of pigment on my skin, probably because I am fairly pale. So the colors don't show up until after quite a lot of packing, BUT the colors in this quad do go VERY well together.

I am semi-happy with the purchase, but I know that I would have regreted not buying it. :)

Azuki Bean is my fave for now! I wear it daily, layered over my beloved Satin Taupe.

Skin79 BB Cream

Yes, I know every Asian girl out there is obsessing over this!

Gorgeous packaging! We all know what a sucker I am for that :).

I think I've been loyal to Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer for an eternity, and it has yet to fail me, but bubz and jen have been raving about this product. I got it because it was only about $16 on Amazon and because bubz says there are whitening properties. Typically, I wouldn't think too much about whitening agents in my cosmetics, but lately... I'm not sure... but I think I've discovered sun spots :(.

Anyway, the texture of this is between a tinted moisturizer and liquid foundation. It goes on a lot thicker than I'm used to, but the coverage is just enough to even out skin tone perfectly. My favorite thing about this BB Cream is probably that it lasts quite a while throughout the day.

The trade-off is that application isn't that smooth. If you're using your fingers, you really need to learn how they work and how to blend with them, or you'll end up chafing your skin or with blotchy looking skin. Also, if you over do it with the product, you're going to look cakey.

BUT for $16, it's a total bargain, so give it a try!

Orgasm vs. Sugar Bare

Beckie came home a while ago and after about 30 minutes, I ran in there and told her I wanted to give her a mani. She told me she already began the process of painting her nails and lifted her left hand to eye level.

"That looks JUST like my NARS orgasm nail polish!"

Almost like twins huh?

I'm sure you all are no strangers to the Orgasm collection by NARS. This baby cost me a whopping $17!

Beckie's nail polish is Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in 05 Sugar Bare.

Here are some swatches (did a quick swipe on the back of my gum box LOL).

Sugar Bare is on the left and Orgasm is on the right. The only real difference is that Orgasm seems to be a lighter shade of pink with a bounty of gold sparkles. Sugar Bare is a darker pink but goes on pretty sheer.

Just GUESS how much Beckie paid for her almost-like-Orgasm-nail-polish??? That's right, at a TOTAL COMPLETE STEAL she picked this up at 2 for $1 at the Dollar Tree.

Good trade-off?

Urban Decay's Naked Palette

Gorgeous, no?

For those of you who actually know what this palette is, know that it's a tad on the difficult side to get your hands on one. Believe me when I say I sat around for a quite a while before it was available to me!

The BEST thing about Urban Decay palettes is that it comes with a brush. Yes, see that FULL SIZED brush? I love it! It's a great brush, but it's not that useful. This one in particular is more for precision lining and highlighting, but not so great for shadow application.

I have no complaints about the shadows though. Like most Urban Decay shadows, they are super pigmented and minimal on fall-outs. The shadows are pretty neutral and remind me of different shades of almond. The thing is, I feel like they aren't so great alone. I tried to do an everyday neutral look with a combo of two colors and a highlight but it didn't turn out as great as I hoped it would.

I will say though, "virgin" is perhaps the most amazing highlight I have yet to try.

My Guilty Pleasure

I have an obscene amount of lip products.

The top row consist of lip balms, middle lip glosses, and the bottom are all lipsticks.

I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE lipsticks! :) Everything about them is just amazing for me! The best part about lipsticks is that the colors just look stunning on lips of all types (thin, full, etc.).

These are my favorite lipsticks:

From left to right:

Mac with DSquared Lustre Lipstick in Nude Rose
- this was a limited edition lipstick and by far, my ABSOLUTE favorite

Mac Glaze Lipstick in Lollipop Loving
- I bought this when Mac came out with their Hello Kitty line, they ran out of whatever color the hello kitty lipstick was... but this was almost exactly the same! It's a very pretty girly pink color

Benefit Rush Hour Instant Makeover for Lips and Cheeks
- the MOST hydrating lipstick ever... too bad it doesn't come in other shades (does it?)

ELF Lipstick in Party Pink
- while extremely cheap, I was pleasantly surprised at how moisturizing this was

Shiseido Perfect Rouge in BE 208
- beautiful coral color

Lancome Color Design Shimmer Lipstick in Pink Attitude
- the lipstick itself looks mega glittery, but transforms into sheen on your lips

Lancome Color Design Cream Lipstick in B-List
- super matte nude lipstick, goes better with some clear gloss

Lancome Color Design Cream Lipstick in Natural Beauty
- it's very similar to B-List except a bit on the darker side

(the last three were a birthday gift from Lancome ^-^)

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte in 2
- FINALLY! I know... it's REALLY expensive, BUT I tell you... it's worth it! The color is amazing, it smells amazing, and it just glides right on!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in 202 Crush
- the best part of this drug store lipstick is that I got it for 75% off! You can tell I love those coral-pink colors :)

Hello Kitty Sweet Gloss Lipstick in Apple (@Sephora)
- it's more of a tinted lip balm than a lipstick, and as you all know... I totally bought it for the packaging and because it's Hello Kitty

Notice the different colored carpet? That's because I'm at home in San Francisco :).

Want close ups, or have questions about a particular lip color I didn't bring up? Leave a comment!

Garnier Nutrioniste Moisture Rescue

This is what they call a "gel creme moisturizer", contradictory no?

It definitely has a cream-like consistency, but more light and airy, like a gel.

This is what the product looks like:

I've been using it for about a month now (only mornings), and so far, no negative effects. I'm talking about negative effects first because it was the first thing I thought about when I initially tried the product.

My skin is really dry, so when that unmistakable smell of alcohol lingered into my nose, I cringed and thought about those days in middle school when everyone was using those acne removing Oxy pads.

Yeah, gross.

Alcohol in skin care products is known to dry out your skin, and I was really worried. But I was curious and I loved the texture of this "gel creme".

To conclude, this moisturizer hasn't done anything out of the ordinary, but it has done no harm. That's really all I ask anyway :). So yes, it IS indeed mega moisturizing! And even though the thing reeks of alcohol, my face has met with no breakouts nor dry patches.

All smiles for winter skin.

My Issue with Concealer Under My Eyes

Here's my standard make-up routine:

Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer all over the face (I use this because regular foundation makes my skin look dry and flakey)

Lancome's Maquicomplet Concealer goes on whatever needs concealing... including my dark circles.

Mac's Mineralize Skinfinish goes all over the face.

Problems:

1)I use Loreal's HiP liner and after a while, it tends to flake and these flakes end up under my eye.
2)The concealer under my eyes (and only here) cakes up like crazy.

Eye liner flakes + cakey-ness = NEGATIVE.

So, I tried applying my make-up differently. Instead of dusting the Skinfinish all over my face, I avoid the under eye area. Voila! Significantly less caking and when the flakes do end up there, they wipe away easily.

Nice :).

Try it out if you have the same issue!

My Beauty Diary Masks

I keep telling people that I'm going to blog about these. I'm so sorry it took forever!

I saw on Jae's blog that these were on sale at the Ranch99 in Daly City (and apparently ONLY on sale there). So while my family was fetching those shrimp wonton bowls, Linae and I perused the stacks of these babies.

Here's the Bulgarian White Rose:

The Green Apple:

So I've been using these every 3-4weeks and they are pretty awesome. They are most DEFINITELY moisturizing. I think my favorite thing about these are that they are pore-minimizing.

How do I know this? I don't really... BUT immediately after the first time I used it, I noticed that a lot of the gross stuff (does anyone know what it's called?) in my pores on my nose started popping out. Gross, I know, BUT great for cleaning the pores :). I'm sure that means some sort of tightening is going on, right?

For me, there is no real difference between the two different "flavors". They do, however, smell delicious and list different benefits for your skin on the boxes.

You can learn more about their products here.

Cherry Blossom Nails

I was going to do these for the Lunar New Year, but forgot. I wish I had art hands so that I could do a better job.

Yeah, I also wish so terribly that it didn't look like I was trying to slash my nails :(.

Here are the nail polishes I used:

And the picture I TRIED VERY HARD to model my nails after haha.

The process included toothpicks in case you were wondering. Yeah... I'm gonna stick to make up and let the salons deal with my nails from now on. :)

Palty Hair Dye

I hope my mentees aren't reading my blogs, because I am being a bad influence and am pumping out a blizzard of blogs because I am bored in my classes.

ANYWAY!

Courtney mentioned that I should try Palty hair dye. It's a Japanese brand that is meant to cater to Asian hair. My issue with hair dying is that my hair is very fine and just doesn't take the color until maybe about 3 retouches. So I thought, "Maybe my hair is too Asian," and decided to give it a try (also it's on sale for $7.99 --normally $14.99($12.99?)-- at the Ranch99 in El Cerrito haha, otherwise... at Ichiban Kan, they sell it for about $9).

Here's a picture I found on Google Images (I forgot to take my own):

Contents:
- #1 + #2 are the actual dye
- Conditioner in the little orange packet
- Easy Applicator

Pros:
- The easy applicator is the best applicator ever.
- They have a good number of shades.

Cons:
- There is too little product, unless you have shoulder length hair.
- They did not provide enough conditioner.

*Note: the price is about the same as your average drug store hair dye.

I wish I could show you before and after pictures of my hair. But basically, my hair was a cooler red-brown and after it was a warmer golden brown with red tints.

It looks pretty unique right about now :).

Paragon at the Claremont Hotel

I really wanted to have dinner at Wood Tavern (because Connie keeps talking about how Lauren raves about it), but they were packed. It was 8:00PM and they wouldn't have a table until 9:30PM :(.

Good thing we had a back-up plan. We drove up a couple blocks to the Claremont Hotel (parking is crazy expensive, but the restaurant validates!) and ate at Paragon.

I love the ambiance of this place. It was bar/lounge-like, had comfy couches as well as taller tables, and a fully stocked bar.

I ordered a cucumber, ginger martini.

It was really strong... almost rubbing alcohol strong. So for the first time ever, I sent something back and had them remake it. They did and it came back like juice with a drop of vodka -__-, but I'm positive it's because the bartender was just annoyed. At least it was refreshing.

Most of our meal came from the bar menu. Here's the tuna tartare with taro chips.

It really just... sucked. I mean it wasn't terrible, but if you're going to put tuna tartare on the menu, why do you purposely go out of the way to make it so that the fish is just impossible to taste? I've had MUCH better elsewhere. Also, not a fan of the taro chips like I thought I would be. I will say the pumpkin seeds were a nice touch in the tartare.

This is the brussel sprouts salad. It is THE BEST salad I have ever had.

They cut off the stem of the brussel sprouts so that you are left with a flurry of leaves, toss in some croutons, peanuts, a light lemon vinaigrette, and then top it with a gorgeous piece of candied bacon. Although it may not be the healthiest salad, it was definitely the tastiest (at least for me).
A different view: Rayland didn't like it because it was a warm salad and he felt like he was having Chinese vegetable stir-fry.

This mac and cheese was amazing!

I know this is ironic, but I don't like too much cheese in my mac and cheese. Their pasta was perfectly cooked and then tossed in cheese and cream, then thrown in the oven for a warm embrace as a layer of cheese crusts on top. It was more of a mac and cheese sauce than just plain ole macaroni and cheese. Just the perfect comfort food dish.

The pork tacos are the worst.

I liked nothing about these. The pork was dry and taste watery and salty, which pretty much just ruined everything else.

The pot roast is the only thing we ordered from the actual menu.

When it came, it was really dry and really salty, so we didn't finish it. You know what's quirky, though? That mashed potato is the same weird mashed potato that they were serving at Bouchon (read about it here). Anyway, I microwaved it the next day for lunch and it was super delicious! I think the steam trapped in tupperware did the trick for the dry roast.

I know, too much food, not enough beauty products. They are on their way! Promise!

Bouchon Bakery

My friend Betty told me about these enormous macaroons. They were the size of my palms (I have small hands so they're not totally massive)! But to compare, it's about triple (maybe 2.5x) the size an average macaroon.

Clockwise starting with the pink one: Strawberry, Vanilla, Pistachio, Lemon, Coffee, and Caramel.

There is one missing... my beloved Passion Fruit macaroon. Rayland ate it while I was away at mentoring and I am completely crushed and decided to never let him live it down.

Heartbreaks aside, they are the most delicious macaroons my tongue has ever graced. It is more cookie-like than others I've had. They are crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and filled with a cream surprise (for example: the passion fruit cream has a slice of candied passion fruit). They got the almond flour just right so that the cookie isn't over poweringly almond-like.

Just. Perfect.

If you love macaroons, you will make the trip.

Love Always,

Bouchon Restaurant

I've been meaning to visit Bouchon of Yountville for the longest time. Since we were in the Napa area, I forced this in :).

What I really came for are the macaroons waiting for me at the bakery next door. But it was lunch time and the restaurant is right there after all.

Lobster bisque was their soup of the day.

I can't even imagine what words can describe the deliciousness of this soup. It was just made too perfectly. The meatball-like thing you see in the center is a lobster cake (like a crab cake). The bisque is also garnished with several little cauliflowers and some brussel sprout leaves. The lobster cake just melts in your mouth and just goes so well with the bisque. Really, if you had to reserve the word magnifique for something, this is it.

We also ordered the scallops.

It came with lobster pieces, roasted chestnuts, some kind of mashed potato, and that huge potato chip. Once again, DI-VINE! The scallops were cooked to perfection and whatever that mashed/puree potato stuff was... it was amazing. Everything about this dish was just delicious. I will say the potato chip is a tad out of place...... and oily.

This is the leg of lamb.

Your leg of lamb may be served in several ways. We had it sliced. It was cooked perfectly, but I was not a fan of the texture since I am partial to the loin meat. The sauce was also a little overpowering. The potato pastry thing was also disappointing. I would skip over this dish.

*Note: like most French cuisine, portions are small for the price, but don't be too disappointed, the flavors make up for everything.

The Boon Fly Cafe at the Carneros Inn

For my birthday, Rayland took me to the Carneros Inn Resort in Napa :).

The Carneros Inn is basically your standard 5 star home-away-from-home, but instead of having individual rooms, you get individual cottages! The bathroom was the size of my apartment's living room! The inn was amazing and I forgot to take pictures haha. But if you google it, you will find yourself at their website, which will provide a very cool virtual tour. The best part? There was a fire place and an enormous flat screen TV.

It was pouring all weekend and I was almost sure that the the roof was going to collapse (not because I didn't think the cabin was structurally sound, but that's just how hard it was coming down).

Somehow, we managed through the storm and made it to the Boon Fly Cafe on the other side of the cottage area.

I saw corn muffins on the menu and HAD to have it (if you didn't know, I LOVE corn bread).

It came with a honey whipped butter on the side. The muffins were just average, but the butter was sensational! I've had honey butter several other times and this one is a winner.

Their soup of the day was a potato leek soup. The weather was terribly cold, so soup was a must.

I was hoping that it would be more of a chunky, hearty soup and less of a bisque. Regardless, it was good and the croutons were nice and crunchy.

This was some sort of citrus cocktail.

This was the margarita.

The drinks were less than impressive. I think they were wine based (since we were in wine country) and took away the cocktail feel. It also lacked a lot of essential flavors and "kicks".

Before we made a dining decision (there are 3 restaurants at the inn), I did some yelping. Apparently, the smoked salmon flatbread is a specialty, so we ordered it.
TA-DA!

As you can see, we could not contain our excitement and took a few bites before I snapped a shot. It was really good! Very similar to having a thin crust pizza with smoked salmon and creme fraiche, and it was just so perfectly crispy. The flatbread also had parmesan cheese in it, which, as we all know, makes everything better. It reminded me a lot of the smoked salmon breakfast pizza Linae had at La Boulangerie in San Francisco (they have great French macaroons by the way).

These mashed potatoes came with the fried chicken (below). There was nothing special about them.

We had to order the fried chicken, because the whole place smelled of the stuff! It's one of their more popular dishes.

I have to say though, it was pretty average. It was good, but nothing stood out and it was quite forgettable.

These were the ribs.

They were REALLY dry, but the chefs really got the sauce right. I think they were on the drier side because it was a really lean cut of meat. The potato salad had too much mustard seed in it.

We had a ton of food leftover, but since we weren't going to frequent this place, I insisted on dessert. Rootbeer float!
If you didn't know, I hate root beer. Period. But Rayland ordered a rootbeer float at BJ's Brewery once (they have the most amazing handcrafted rootbeer floats, PLEASE TRY) and I was hooked.

What's cool about the Boon Fly Cafe's rootbeer float was that they shove their enormous beer glass into the freezer before they serve this awesome concoction. Then they add three scoops of ice cream, bring you the rootbeer in a bottle, and let you do all the pouring (because that's the fun part, you know?). It was pretty good, but nothing compared to BJ's. :)

I know it seems like we order a lot of food, but we take home a ton of leftovers that Rayland devours the next day haha.

Girls Night Out

Lancy, Kristina, and I went on a much needed bonding night that involved about three different meals. Why yes, all in ONE night.

The first stop is at Little Star, which (according to Yelp) is in the "Western Addition/NOPA" district of San Francisco (I've lived here my whole life and have never heard anyone use those words to describe that area). The place has a pretty good vibe. Specials are written in chalk on boards at the top of the walls, there's a juke box, and the whole place is completely dimmed to the point where we could not determine Lancy's new hair color.

We started with a caprese salad.

It's pretty hard to mess this up. Needless to say, it's delicious if you're into this type of salad. I will say those tomatoes were particularly fresh!

This was their special for the night: meatballs with spinach, roasted bell peppers, ricotta, mushrooms, and spinach.

You have the option of choosing the deep dish option or the thin crust. We went with the thin crust. Let me tell you this pizza was pretty darn amazing! (I'm not sure if you know, but pizza is on the bottom of the list for me when it comes to good food.) What totally won me over were definitely the meatballs. They were just perfectly delicious. The crust could have used some more "thin" if you know what I mean.

After dinner, we made our way to a dessert&wine bar called Candy Bar (clever, no?). They have happy hour from 6pm-8pm, where certain drinks on the menu are around $3.

Here's our $2 sangria.

Bottom line: I do not recommend this. It was not chilled enough, but it was refreshing. It just lacked so much of what sangria is.

We had the Japanese cheesecake to much on. It was yums! For those of you who have never tried Japanese cheesecake, it's actually a cake and not a pie.

It is served with bread crumbs, guava sorbet, and honeydew pieces. The white chunky stuff on the top of the honeydew is some sort of frozen vodka concoction laced with sugar syrup and was presented in a smooth, shaved ice consistency. The best part is definitely the guava sorbet! I have never had guava flavored sorbet, but it was so smooth and not icy like typical sorbets. The cake is nothing special, if you've had your share of Japanese cheesecakes.

We each ordered a sparkling wine (which really means champagne haha) cocktail. I had a passion fruit one, Lancy a lavender(I think... I can't remember), and Kristina a strawberry one.

I think my passion fruit one was the best, hands down. The lavender one was light on flavor and the strawberry one tasted like someone spiked a strawberry Fanta.

We then headed to the Marina district and found ourselves at a place called Tacolicious. We chose this place based on two reasons (to be blamed on me). I was craving tacos and I noticed that this place happened to be really crowded (in my world, crowded = good restaurant... I think it's a good way to judge haha).

Here's the several sauces that were served! All yummy!

All the chips and salsa you can eat. Also yummy!

The amazing fish tacos and margarita! This was definitely the best part. They were super crispy and nothing but rainbows in your mouth. The margaritas were amazing as well.

The only thing about Tacolicious is that it's a little on the expensive side, but it was totally worth it.

Me
