Dreamer

While the weather may seem to be poor to others, I'd like to take the muddy streets and find art in the wet dirt. I'd rather be the one to discover a sense of beauty in a corrupt world than face what is the truth.

Delusional yes, but I would rather live senselessly in an illusion than define reality as something that I would rather not be a part of.

Just procrastinating.

Dry or Oily Skin?

I have some cool solutions plus more goodies!

Oily:

I love the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Lancome's liquid concealer, but at the end of the day (or maybe after about 5 hours) I start to look a little shiny. I hate that, because not only does it look oily, it also looks a bit on the cakey side.

So I've had this for a while and decided to try it out again. This is Urban Decay's Universal loose powder.

As you can see its this pale yellow color, but it goes on "clear" after some blending.

It also has a cute sponge applicator, but I prefer popping it open and using a big fluffy brush.

The package says that it "puffs and buffs with zero mess...while banishes redness and shine". I'm not sure what "puffs and buffs" means, but my skin has definitely lost that oily grossness! So go and give it a try or at least see if they can set you up with a sample. I feel like it's absorbing the excess oil on my skin throughout the day.

Dry:

Okay, I know, not a cosmetic. I don't want you guys thinking I've gone holistic or hippie on you, but Dragon Well Tea might be what is causing my amazing bout of perfect skin right now!

My family and I toured Northern China some summers ago and while in the mountains of Hangzhou, we got this cool Dragon Well Tea.

The people there say that it has amazing effects on health. They say it helps with digestion (as with most green teas), weight loss, and in general cleansing the body of toxins (especially if you smoke and drink a lot).

I had this tea next to me while I slaved away on Monday for my report and other homework. I was working all day long so I just continued to boil water and add it to my tea batch. The next day, I came out of the show and applied my makeup like usual, but for some reason my skin was AMAZING. It was soft and dewy looking. Not only that, but the brushes did not chafe my skin and application was much smoother than usual. AND that was only ONE day of drinking the tea (well I had it all day long), but imagine if you had this stuff on a daily basis!

Now, I'm not going to let the Dragon Well Tea take all the credit. For all I know, my skin might have been extra-moisturized merely because of the excess water I was feeding my body.

I will say though, two days before the tea drinking, I treated myself to the awesome Queen Helen's Mint Julep Mask.

This stuff makes your skin feel completely tingly and refreshed. It's said to unclog pores, shrink enlarged pores and pimples, and wash away blackheads.

I told you guys about the tea first because I've used this mask before and it did not give the same result. So I will assume it's mostly likely the tea that's giving the moisturizing.

Okay now for the goodies!

This is my favorite eye shadow primer at the moment! I got this as a deluxe sample from Sephora and I love it so much!

It definitely does not crease and it's extremely blendable and covers up those stray hairs on your brows when you forget to pluck haha!
Unfortunately, the full size version does not come with the very awesome sponge tip applicator. I usually just dab some on my eyes and use a q-tip anyway.

This is Melon pigment! It came out with Mac's Disney's Villains collection.

The thing I love most about it is that its very wearable and very versatile. Its flecks have these awesome light reflecting properties that just make your eyes glow.

As always, the key to healthy skin is healthy living!

I should take my own advice :)

Sister

I was looking at my facebook profile picture and thought about how all these people think that Linae and I look exactly the same, except she's smaller of course. I feel she's a lot cuter than I am, but that seems to be countered by things like, "Oh that's because she's smaller than you."

Haha... logical I suppose.

But really... there is just not a "cute" bone in my body.

Anyway... after staring for so long, our faces began to merge and then I was thinking, "Oh my god... we DO look exactly the same!" Then I had a Holden Caulfield type of stream of consciousness sort of thinking going on and remembered this one thing my sister said to me.

She was telling her friends how grateful she was to have me or else who would help her lie and yet keep her safe (paraphrasing I assure you because my sister will never show an ounce of that type of sisterly love towards me LOL).

You know... when you're doing something and you don't want your parental units to know, but at the same time you should definitely tell someone where you're going, where you'll be. I'm that someone for Linae.

I think about all these lies we tell our parents (because amongst the three of us (my brother as well), all we do in our spare time is figure out better excuses to tell our mom) and then I think about how great that we have an amazing bond, because we could easily use anything as blackmail.

I guess that's what makes our setup work so well. We totally believe in each other.

So thanks Mom, because the horrifying fear you've instilled in your children has created an unbreakable sibling bond.

Me

P.S. See... I knew there was something to this lack of sibling rivalry that you all call "unnatural".

Food From Last Month

I know... I procrastinate.

Citrus @Santana Row:

We got a Clam Chowder. It was a mistake. It tasted of nothing but cream and was so insanely rich that the rest of the meal was a little difficult to enjoy.

I insisted on a Caesar Salad, because Rayland just does not enjoy vegetables that much LOL. It was pretty good! The salad was lightly dressed and the romaine was really fresh and crisp. That thing that's supposed to be a crouton was not a good pairing though.

My Seared Tuna dish of some sort (I should really blog sooner so I don't forget everything I ate). It was really good! Surprisingly, the fish was really fresh. There are yaki soba noodles beneath the bed of fish and they were really good, but a little heavy on the sauce.

Rayland's Prime Rib was the star of the night. I was tempted to switch with him. It was sooooooo delicious and tender. The best part? They cooked it just like that. None of this slathered-in-sauce nonsense that other steak places seem to think is phenomenal. My rule with steak is that you MUST be able to taste the meat the way it is. (There's some Chinese saying about the original taste of food. I just can't translate it haha.)

The next day, we made a scramble with the leftover meat and it was DI-VINE!

Overall, Citrus was okay. It was pleasant enough lol.

Crab Landing:

I think I decide whether or not I like a restaurant in the first 2 minutes upon arrival. So you can imagine how I must've felt when I saw this gorgeous, two-story restaurant with only 2 tables filled. To say it was a let down is an understatement.

I came across this restaurant when I was browsing Kron4's gift certificate section of the website. I yelped it and discovered that the decor was absolutely alluring, and so I ignored the 3star rating and made Rayland drive us out to the middle of nowhere in Half Moon Bay.

The drive was dangerous to say the least.

Anyway, this is the abalone chowder with lump crab meat. It was pretty good actually, but I couldn't really find the abalone. The lump crab meat, on the other hand, stared me in the face and cried for me to eat it. It was delicious and insanely fresh (as was all the seafood that was served).

California Roll with REAL Crab Meat. It tasted the same (and maybe worse) than a california roll with imitation crab meat. In fact, the texture was similar to that of tuna salad -__-

This was the best dish! It's Scallops wrapped in Smoked Salmon. Those scallops were ENORMOUS. The only thing is scallops tend to naturally run on the salty side, so the smoked salmon was really over the top with the salt. But the sauce was a good complement.

I cannot even remember what this was, because I just had no appetite at that point (full from disappointment I suppose). It was some sort of smoked salmon in crispy seaweed with sweet and spicy sauce. The flavors are pretty good in thought and the crispy seaweed was delicious. But together, it just didn't come out as good as it sounds. At least the fingerling potatoes were good, but let's be honest here: how could you possibly mess up potatoes?

To conclude: give Citrus a try and stay away from Crab Landing.

That is all.

Me

In MY World...

...cigarettes will explode the moment you light up.

...bicyclists will be forced to travel in a designated tube that will bother neither cars nor walking pedestrians.

...my paycheck would be larger.

...nerdy girls will be forced to shower once a day and maintain other types of personal hygiene.

...my boobs would be smaller.

...belly fat will burn faster.

...anti-social people (and I don't mean that shy Asian girl sitting behind--who am I kidding!-- IN FRONT of you... I mean the weirdos who go out of their way to avoid human beings) will be forced to take self help classes or be confined to the underground.

...annoying mothers will join them in periods of time called "grounding" (HAHA I know).

...no one will age (except the smokers because that's just what's gonna happen to you anyway), and those anti-aging cosmetic companies will be out of business.

...everyone will have some sort of peace of mind.

...Tim Lincecum would be in the throne next to mine.

Human Resources

As one an introduction point, my professor said this to us: "This class will ruin you."

Initially, I thought she meant that my life will hence forth be consumed with an obsession to watch every move a person makes while performing his/her job.

Now I know this obsession is beyond that. Not only are you watching their every move, but suddenly just then mention of what you're doing turns the obsession contagious and then it has gone viral. Soon, everyone who knows even a tad about the assignment will subconsciously observe the cafe workers, the dancing sign advertisers, and even the teachers.

Michelle was the waitress that night. She is very attractive and has an uncanny resemblance to Sofia Vergara (Gloria, on ABC's Modern Family).

I must say though, she was extremely pleasant to observe and quite often... distracting. I found it hard to concentrate as I wondered things like whether or not her assets were "natural", or what the purpose of her working there was (other than trying to make a quick buck by merely being attractive with a specific build), or how old she was.

As the night progressed, I am more than enamored and it turned into something like pity. She worked so terribly hard when she really didn't have to and did all these tasks while the other girls sat and lounged and giggled at the Monday Night Football goers. Suddenly, she wasn't just another waitress, but an actual person.

I don't think I've ever felt like that about a person who was waiting on me. Because to me, they hold the power. They get paid to serve me but can simply spit on my food if they felt like it. And hence in my mind, just another soulless wage worker. But Michelle, poor Michelle, worked her patooty off even though it was clear that it was not required of her to do so.

This was not the way in which I expected to be ruined by this course.

Burma Superstar

So I know I blogged about it before, but I tried some new dishes when Rayland came.

This is the famous Tea Leaf Salad.

It was mostly blah. The flavors were pretty bland and there wasn't anything particularly special about it except for the fact that the concept of eating tea leaves in a salad sounded cool.

This is Fish Noodle Soup.

OMG I loved this so much! It was so delicious! It was spicy, but just enough of it. Then there are the noodles and the crunchy corn clusters and the fish is deep fried, but it does not taste unhealthy in the least bit! I wish so badly that I could describe this better.

Go try!

Weekend Fun

Rayland came to visit for the weekend, which meant I got zero studying done. Normally, any typical college student saying that wouldn't really mean anything because I really don't think people actually get any studying done anyway :).

Unfortunately for me, this means that I am unprepared for my midterm tomorrow at 9:30. Why yes! Bright and early in the AM -____- . He just left like 2 hours ago so I am just now beginning my studying hand-in-hand with the procrastination.

I guess even though he interrupted my routine, it was worth it, but it kills me on so many different levels.

Anyway, I wanted to blog about the foodventures of the weekend, but I must proceed with the developing nations and what not.

So I leave you with the fabulous Sushi Boat Special from Sushi House in Alameda :).

It was fresh and delicious, as always, AND totally worth it. My only regret is that we didn't finish the whole thing while it was still fresh. Boo.

Olay, Laneige, Maybelline, Laura Mercier, Lancome, and American Apparel Nail Polish

It's been a while ;)

Okay, so after the dry-as-Thanksgiving-turkey Nutritional Sciences class over the summer, I've been obsessing with two main things: higher calcium intake to prevent osteoporosis AND... wrinkles.

Yes, wrinkles! I said it! And I tell everyone about my mission LOL. And everyone responds in the same way... very much like the look you're giving me now.

So I slap on the sunglasses to prevent squinting (which leads to crows feet due to overuse of muscles), rub on that eye cream with SPF from Shiseido's sun collection's adorable little tube, and proceed with the nightly post-shower Olay's Night of Olay Firming Cream.

For those of you who are also in the same frenzy, the cheap drug store stuff is good enough for the young-in's sitting comfortably in their twenties. Here's the deal with this firming cream. It goes on all gross and cream-like and then BAM! In seconds your face is smooth, soft, matte, and totally grease free. I think that's the best part. As for any actual skin firming... I'm not so sure since I'm not actually experiencing a lack of firmness. But like I always say... it's a precaution :). I recommend it because it's very hydrating and makes for a very cheap night cream at the price of approximately $6 at Target (lasts me for about 2-3months).
---
This is my Laneige powder in translucent.

I saw this on bubz and totally loved the packaging! So I did a little perusing and read about how all the Koreans are obsessed with it since apparently makes your skin flawless like the Korean superstars. Unfortunately, the powder comes in only two shades: translucent or bright. This means if your skin is on the darker side, it's not really as effective. It comes with a cool mirror on the front, which you slide open to reveal the powder and then underneath the powder is an adorable little sponge. Come on, you MUST be impressed with the packaging right? How clever they are to put the mirror in front and then the sponge underneath so that nothing gets messy!

The best part of the powder is that it smells amazing and has an SPF of 50. For me, the powder places my face on the pale side, so then I tried it with my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and that seemed to take away a little bit of the paleness. Overall, I really like the powder because it really lasts you throughout the day and you really don't need touch-ups unless you're rubbing your face or something. As for the flawless skin look, it's about the same as other powders (except Benefit's Hello Flawless! they are true to their name!), and for $38... you can take a pass unless you're like me and just absolutely adore the packaging (those people down in marketing really know how to win a girl's heart).
---
Maybelline has recently launched these cool cream eyeshadow trios. This one is #25 Neutral Liaisons.

Linae's friend Jess was telling me how there were some not-so-great reviews on these babies, but I had a coupon so I bought one anyway. I'm not actually very fond of cream shadows because they're very thick and I'm not sure how I feel about dunking my brushes in there. And so, I used my fingers instead, which makes a lot of sense if you think about it because your fingers warms the product and allows for easier application.

So I was right and I really just loved the color combo. The problem with this stuff is that your eyes tend to look a little on the creased and cakey side because you have to apply a tad on the heavier side in order for the look to be accomplished. I'll probably do an updated review after I give the lighter application a try.
---
I've been using the sample size Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with SPF20 for an eternity! Why yes, the SAME tube because it's lasting me FOREVER. But I'm finally running on the low side after about 5-6months, and decided to get more. For those of you who have yet to discover this amazing tinted moisturizer, it is fabulous to say the least! It's so smooth and silky and really does the job in evening out the skin tone. Also, it acts as a pretty awesome base (I use this instead of foundation).

Anyway, at Sephora, the full-size tinted moisturizer is $42/tube (go ask for a sample before you make any decisions, they're cool about making samples for you ^-^). But they have this cool pack that has all these other awesome things for $65, and so I bought that instead.

It comes with everything you see here and this cute little pouch!

The best part is the brushes are full-size brushes! I haven't given the whole thing a try yet so you guys will have to wait on that :). But in terms of what you're getting for the price, it's totally worth it.
---
As you all know, Michelle Phan is now Lancome's official video make up artist and she makes these awesome videos showcasing various Lancome products. And once again, the marketing team has won me over! Check out the awesome design of La Rose Deco blush!

Not only is the design of the blush super pretty, but the entire case itself is pretty appealing. Now as for the product, it's supposed to give you a shimmery, rosy glow and I'd say that's accomplished with this blush. As you can see, there's a side that's particularly rosy and then a paler side. The box recommends using the rosy side as blush and then the pale side for highlight. Now the blush is actually not very pigmented (which I love in a blush) so you can actually take your brush, do a little swish on the whole thing and give yourself a slightly shimmery rosy glow just like that. I tried using the colors separately and it did not produce the results that I'd like for a blush, so there's that. But as far as blushes go, I'd say to for-go this $40 baby as well, unless you're really into rosy cheeks (I guess since Winter is approaching that would be appropriate). I'm still loving my Nars blush in Luster!
---
So my Lancome online purchase came with like a ton of different freebies :D. One of which is this eyeshadow quad in Kitten Heel (top left), Madame Muse (top right), Night Sky (bottom left), and Margarita Affair (bottom right).

So far, I'm loving the color combo! And the colors go on pretty nicely, I totally recommend trying their eyeshadows.
---
A typical Tuesday and Thursday involves lunching with Lancy, bundled with a lack of decision about food. On a particular day, we strolled past an American Apparel and I noticed they have nail polish now! This cute blue caught my eye :).

Wow my hands are gross LOL. Sorry I'm not doing the nail polish justice :(.

Anyway, for $6, it was a little on the pricey side for nail polish. But the bottle is relatively large and it turned out to be very pigmented! That is until later I found out this might only be the case for me since my friend Betty did not experience the same results when applying the nail polish. Regardless, I totally recommend this! I think they also have a good discount if you buy two :).

Stay pretty!

Neuticals

As Courtney and I prepare to castrate our furry children, she mentions Kim Kardashian and Bruce Jenner's need for Reggie Bush's dog to NOT be neutered... loss of manhood sort of thing I assume. The dog ended up with testicle implants -___-

Anyway, I can not believe those things even exist! I mean what would be the purpose of them?

On Monday, we went in for the pre-op exam. Basically the vet seemed like all kinds of shady. He insisted on selling us things we really did not need and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Then I asked the nurse how the procedure is actually done. I. Wish. I. Didn't.

I went home and I had like 50 second thoughts! How could I put poor Friday through this :(

In the end... Courtney and I went through with it.

Poor thing.

Labor Day Weekend in NAPA

The weekend began with the arrival of Rayland and his pair of tomodachi...... at 2am -___-

Saturday

Woke up at around 9:30 and got ready to send Friday to Auntie Connie. Then we were off to dimsum. We checked into a hotel in Fairfield called Napa Valley Loft Hotel. No pictures were taken... here's why:

Upon entering the room Rayland and I discovered that it looked exactly like the picture... and I mean EXACTLY. After being extremely sad about how dirty it was and complaining for 20minutes, we came to realize that the hotel was not dirty but merely unused and therefore very dusty and things were likely unchanged since whenever they bought the bedding and what not (unchanged but not unwashed I assure you). Anyway that was the one real flaw about the place, but the service was great and we spent most of our time in Napa anyway.
*If this is a plus at all, the place came with free wi-fi and also ESPN.

That night, dinner was on the Napa Valley Wine Train. There are are two options for dinner, the Vista Dome or the Gourmet Car. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to have dinner in the dome... but when I booked this (THREE WEEKS prior to the trip), they were already completely full :(.

So we ended up in the Gourmet Train... but not only that... we ended up on the SECOND seating. This means that we sit in the Lounge Car and have our appetizers and drinks first and then move to the Gourmet Car for dinner. I was really sad because I wanted to do it the other way around, but this actually turned out better. You get to wander around the train when you're in the Lounge Car so we got to wander around while it was still light out and took awesome pictures :).

We arrived at the "train station" early and went wine tasting (compliments of the Wine Train). So by the time I got on the train for drinks and appetizers, I had enough wine. I ordered a Shirley Temple instead and guess what? It was the MOST AMAZING Shirley Temple I've ever had (Rayland agreed it was delicious and he usually finds this concoction sickeningly sweet and repulsive).

The appetizer consisted of toast, green cheese whose name I've forgotten, grapes, tiger prawn, seaweed salad, mozzarella balls, prosciutto, grape tomatoes, and pressed chicken. It was nothing too special, but that prawn was surprisingly sweet and fresh, very delicious.

We migrated to the Gourmet Car and was greeted with a salad. It was like the chef totally knew my love for goat cheese and sweet vinaigrette :). Candied walnuts, shredded carrots, pickled onions, and cute little yellow tomatoes on a bed of baby lettuce, tossed in a honey cider vinaigrette, topped with smokey goat cheese. Ahh... the perfect salad.

To cleanse our pallets, sorbet! (from top to bottom: coconut, mixed berry, and pineapple)

I had the sea bass. It was topped with mango salsa with a side of saffron infused rice, asparagus, and baby carrots. You know, for food on a train it was pretty damn good, and again... surprisingly fresh. The sea bass was overly cooked though.

As you can tell, we got way too excited and I forgot to take pictures until we were quite silent with chewing. Rayland had the Grilled and Roasted Beef Tenderloin. It came with gorgonzola toast and asparagus. The beef was perfectly cooked! It tasted very similar to a steak we had elsewhere, but I drove myself nuts trying to remember and still nothing (I'm almost certain it was at Cafe Rouge).

Rayland had the Tiramisu for dessert. OMG it was soooooooooooooooo good I can't even describe to you. And does it not look completely adorable in its spherical chocolaty goodness?

I ordered the creme brulee. It was delicious as well! But the tiramisu totally trumps it.

The best part: the train! Being on that train was totally awesome :). It felt so old-school haha. If you guys are interested, they also do interactive murder mystery theater!

Sunday

Warning: Prepare yourself for an unbelievable (and unbelievably long) story.

Based on the previous blog, you now all know Rayland and I went on a hot air balloon and he made my dream come true and whatnot. Here's the full story:

We woke up at 5am, got ready, and arrived at Downtown Napa at around 6:10am. We were supposed to arrive promptly at 6:15 so we were cutting it close. Turns out the street we were supposed to turn on was closed due to the River Festival. So it took a while longer to arrive (this should've been a sign that things were gonna go bad).

We sign the appropriate release forms and gathered around as the coordinator filled us in on what's up. He first informed us that originally we were supposed to go to a launch site that was 15minutes away, but due the fog we would launch instead at a site that is 50minutes away. There will be no bathrooms after this point and so we should definitely pee. At this point (6:30am), Rayland went to use the bathroom and I grabbed a mini muffin, not knowing that it will be the last thing I eat until 1pm.

Next we were informed that there will be two flights. Everyone goes to the launch site to watch the balloons inflate. The first group goes on as soon as the balloons are inflated. The second flight gets to chase after the first balloons in a van and then ride on it when the first flight is over. Guess which flight we got stuck on? -_______________-

Balloons being inflated!

After failed attempts at trying to get a first flight, we chased the balloons and finally got to ride on it. The take off was amazing. All of a sudden you are just floating and you don't feel anything at all. The balloon is so huge that it just feels like you're standing on the ground and watching things go by you. It sort of took away from being afloat, and I wished for turbulence of some sort... sadly, there was none.

After the initial amazement, it gets pretty boring. You begin to sweat because the sun is preparing to beat down on you. You get thirsty, hungry. The next thing you know the pilot decides to land, but guess what? He should've decided to do so 15minutes ago.

So here's how hot air balloons work: it's all on the wind, buddy. Sure there is the propane powering the balloon, but I quickly learned that it does nothing except help the balloon ascend and descend. So because the wind gods were not loving us, we were stuck and unable to land in a proper field. You see, the place was filled with farms and we can't land on crops. Therefore the pilot sits and hopes the wind pushes us in the direction of dead grass.

Unfortunately for us, that moment never came... we floated for an eternity, starving, getting sun burned, and he finally made a landing in some farmer's field........ that happened to be locked. What's worse? He was out of town. How did we know? His cowboy (yes, cowboy) neighbor informed us.

There was no way out of the field so the poor helpers helped lift us over the fence into the next field so that they can break into the field by unhinging the gates. This field, that also belonged to the farmer out of town, was a cow field. The cows were adorable, I wish i took pictures! The problem with this was that there was cow dung everywhere :(. So not only were we stranded, starving, sun burned, and dehydrated, we had to worry about stepping on cow doodoo upon being rescued from that wretched balloon -____-

So how did we get out of the locked field? They broke into the field by unhinging the gates. Oh but don't worry, they let the cowboy know. Anyway, we hopped into the van, cow poo free, and drove towards the gate. The pilot stops the car, opens the gate and rushes back in to try and get out as fast as possible. I couldn't understand why he was in such a hurry, until I turned to my right and watched as the cows came toward us with the yearning of freedom in their eyes.

Anyway, in his attempt to get us out super fast, he rammed the van into the gate! I was sure I was going to die in his hands. We finally get out of the field and we're on the road back to downtown Napa (remember, we have no idea where we are and our lives are in the hands of this crazy pilot).

In the middle of the freeway, a woman rolls down her window to yell something at the pilot. The rear bumper was falling off... yup... we were gonna die -___-

A block away from the meeting site, the pilot is annoyed at the traffic (due to the River Festival) and so decides to swerve over to the other side of the road, onto oncoming traffic, and rushes in front of the line of traffic waiting at the stop light. Truly amazing.

Because the tomodachi were waiting, we skipped our complimentary champagne lunch :'(... sigh...

Went back to the hotel, and headed to eat and then the wineries!

The day could've gone better without the raging headaches I was having :(.

First stop, St. Supery.

The waiter on the train said this was a good place for whites. He lied because most of their collection were filled with reds. It was alright... too bad the tours were not in motion when we were there.

This is Domaine Chandon. It was the best! I wish we dined there :'(. I'm actually really sad that we didn't. But the sparkling wine was amazing and the atmosphere was just perfect. If you are in Napa, you must visit :).

Sigh... I know... I know.

Me

On Being in Love

*From our trip to Napa :)

At home (in thrilling San Francisco), there is a list I have taped to the side of my computer table. It's my "Things to Do Before I Marry" list, and riding a hot air balloon is right up there with the rest of them :). Of course, I wrote this list BEFORE I knew how costly this feat is LOL.

The story goes a little like this...

Two February's ago, while Rayland is frantically trying to court me (frantically might be exaggerated, but only a tad I assure you) and my birthday approached, he asked me if I could do anything right then what would it be, and I would have to tell him the first thing that popped into my mind. So I thought about my list and told him about the hot air balloons, seeing as at the moment I felt it was totally impossible and then he would have to ask me to come up with an alternative. Well, he went and said, "Whaatt... I can't give you that." And I responded with an, "Oh well!" LOL. On Valentine's Day, he told me to meet him because he had a present for me. I thought he was lying and nuts (for so many reasons), ignored him and went home (to SF). Weeks later I'll find out that he had booked the hot air balloon ride for us :). Yes, seemingly cruel then, but we laugh about it now I promise!

Anyway, that never went through. So, since we were heading to Napa, at the last minute he sprung it on me :).

And I stood there and watched as the balloons waited for us to board, I secretly pinched myself as he leans over and whispers, "Happy Valentine's Day". Sure, it was ridiculously cheesy and while it could make many girls either melt or gag, it forced me to feel nothing but content, assurance, and absolutely loved.

At age 21, I sound absolutely foolish to say the least, but what can I say... I have the blatantly obvious glow of a girl in love, and everyone (and I mean everyone) sees it. But, I've come to embrace that the glow is alright too, I suppose.

Linae has this glorious quote about how a dude only steps into your life when you really don't need him, expect him (something like that). And then who knew, the sudden rush of adrenaline and every other word is spoken with carelessness and caution. I wanna share my happiness with everyone, and yet I feel as if I've been granted access to a secret society. A place where suddenly mushrooms weren't delicious anymore because he is allergic to them, where Axe deodorant is not repulsive because he uses it, where baseball stats were no longer boring, and where even his fobby style isn't nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. And then it's like a Claritin commercial where everything is just suddenly clear. Crystal.

And if I could explain to you what it feels like to love and be loved and then love even more because you know that you are loved, and have you absolutely understand with clarity exactly what I mean, then I am lying or you, my dear, have no idea what it is like.

Anyway, the hot air balloon ride was amazing for the first 20 minutes and then worse and worse after that. But it was unforgettable nonetheless and it feels like one of many dreams has come true.

Me

The Beginning of a Spew of Update Blogs

SCHOOL. BIG SIGH...

This semester is the first semester that I am taking more than 14units. Although 1 more unit doesn't seem like insanity the problems lie elsewhere.

The perk: for the first time since my first semester at Cal, I have no classes on Fridays.

The horror: 16hours of class and 13hours of work (plus the extracurriculars) are really beginning to take a toll on me.

All of my lectures are twice a week and 1.5 hours each. This is a first ever. Not only that, they all have discussion sections except for one. Also a first for me :(

Along with the awesome things I do for BUILD and APO, I also have to remember that I have a furry child that I must tend to.

The stress begins as I sit there in my 11o'clock class, every Monday and Wednesday morning, and realize once again that I have about 5.7minutes for lunch.

AND for the first time ever, ALL of my classes have actual real homework! You know, not that hey-read-these-pages-by-this-day thing that everyone saves for the end of the semester. There is ACTUAL homework O.O.

Anyway, if you must know, these are some of the many reasons why I have sacrificed my season Cal football tickets to someone else who would enjoy them more.

SIGH... Who knew senior year would be ever so depressing?

Love Always,
Me

PS. My roommate tells me that sighing takes about 3 years off my life... chances are I'll live until Wednesday maybe.

100% Cafe, Strait's, Charcoal BBQ, Burger, and the SF Food Festival

The title pretty much sums up my one week summer vacation lol.

Theresa's mango thang thang. I forgot what it was. But it was cute!

Jess' some other mango thang thang.

Tried to convince Linae she was killing baby frogs. Clearly, they're long gone.

My black&white. I thought, "Mmm... sesame paste and tofu-fa, how yummy." I was wrong. -__-

For those of you who don't know, 100% Healthy Desserts Cafe is a desserts restaurant that claims to be deliciously healthy. My sister and her friends seem to think so, but I do not feel the same way. Of the many Asian dessert places in San Francisco, this one is by far my least favorite :(. Like my old roommate Julie used to say, "If it's delicious, it's probably bad for you."

Jae and I had lunch at Straits in Santana Row and then did some shopping at Valleyfair (Santa Clara area).

My delicious steak(?). VERY nicely cooked! And there was arugula! It's my new favorite leafy green :).

Jae's salmon. The pineapple salsa is to die for!

Brown rice

My new fave, a nice crisp glass of Riesling. The waitress also loves this wine! That's always a plus and we had the same Tiffany's ring haha.

Later on in the week: Korean charcoal BBQ with Lancy, Lily, Edward, and their cousin. Cool grill huh? It was probably the best part.

This is my favorite part of Korean BBQ, the sesame dressed salad!

Banchan (not as wonderful as my beloved Sura of course)

The food was only decent. It's nothing too special, the best part is the cool grill but it gets pretty hot. I can't remember exactly where this place is. But it's near My Tofu House (much pricier, but way better in comparison) on Geary.

Linae, Jess, and I decided that we were tired of the wretched SF weather and made a trip to Santa Cruz. Running around with an empty stomach, Linae recommended Burger (this is her hood you know?)

This is Linae's "burger" squashed between TWO grilled cheese sandwiches! I swear I saw Guy talking about this somewhere on the Food Network. He also mentioned this burger squashed between two glazed doughnuts, which was also available at this joint. I REALLY wanted to try it but was forbidden from doing so :(.

Jess' burger. I can't remember what was in it.

My LAMBURGERS! I opted for these babies instead, since Jess said I shouldn't get that crazy doughnut burger lol. They were delish! I tasted no lamb though -___-

The week concluded with the SF Food Festival with D, Lancy, Kristina, Lily, and Miray.

Korean "Tacos". Although extremely simple, and a super tiny portion, these were my favorite at the feast. Salsa, beef, and rice nestled on two pieces of seaweed. Adorable, no?

Lumpia! They were pretty decent, but tiny and I'm sure I've had better.

These are the chicken wings Kristina demanded. They were not so great to me since I am strongly opposed to cilantro.

Takoyaki! These were special because instead of the ground-up squid balls they usually are, they were stuffed with squid chunks instead! Absolutely YUMS.

This soba came from a different Japanese food stand. I was really excited to try it when I saw other food-goers wandering around with them, only to be disappointed by the flavors :(.

Finally! I got to try the creme brulee from the creme brulee cart! I don't care what the rest of them (and by rest of them I mean LILY) say, this was divine! Extremely rich and extremely sugary though. Only a true sugar lover can learn to appreciate it I suppose.

This is a tuna onigiri, but they call it an "onigilly"! That's how you pronounce it anyway so I guess it's okay haha. It was yummier than I thought! I wish we tried the eggplant one too though.

This is some cool gelatin thing that Deanna bought.

THIS. This sandwich was the talk of the day! Too bad you can't see how amazingly delicious this evil little sandwich is! You stand in the eternally long line and watch as they slow roast the delectable pork. Then you get up there, they slice the little crunchy devils onto whatever yummy bread that is (adding more crunch!) and throw on some greens that have a similar flavor to arugula. To top it off, they offer you a side of their scrumptiously curried fingerling potatoes. Sigh, I wish this was at reach right now.

This is supposedly a bacon wrapped hotdog. I did not find the bacon... sad. I think this was the least favorite for everyone. The sausage was just extremely salty and there was absolutely NOTHING special about it.

This corn on the other hand... OMG Deanna and I hunted high and low for these babies. It was well worth it :). The cob is smothered in a lime-chilli powder concoction and I supposed butter as well.

Sigh... school has begun and I'm merely getting fat just blogging about the food.

Love Always,
Me
